Pot Fillers save time and your back! Wowie! No more carrying heavy pots full of water from the sink to the stove. What a marvelous invention, pot fillers, right?
Then again…
If your water heater is like most, it takes a moment or two for the water to get hot. Once hot, you fill your stock pot and then transfer the pot to the stove to cook your pasta or potatoes.
However, have you ever considered that your stove has no drain? No drain means when filling water from a pot filler there is no minute or two waiting for the water to get hot. If you don’t have your pot filler integrated to BOTH the cold and hot water lines in your kitchen you’ll be filling your pot with cold water. Cold water that takes 6-7 minutes per liter to heat from cold to boiling.
Installation of pot fillers also results in extra renovation costs. These include plumbing costs for the necessary piping to the wall behind the stove. Backsplashes may also need to be patched or replaced. Additional water lines may need to be installed if you’d like to have both hot and cold water options. If you need new piping installed this whole installation can cost in excess of $3,000.
Here at SheBuilds pot fillers get the label of an “Overrated” kitchen feature.
So fill your pot with hot water at the sink and heft it over to the stove. You’ll get some extra bicep curls in the process and save thousands of dollars.
