What’s the most unused space in the kitchen? If you guessed that wasted cupboard above the refrigerator or wall oven and you’re right on the money! It’s generally too high to store items you use everyday. It’s generally too high for children to reach even with a step stool. And it’s definitely not a good use for vases or other serving dishes that inevitably get pushed WAY to the back…You know the ones you only find once a year when you get up there to clean or organize. “There’s the candle holder from Grandma” or “I wondered where that gravy boat went!”
So, what’s it good for? All kinds of things!
Our favorite solution is dividers! Store your cookie sheets and other baking trays here. Most are lightweight and thin so there’s room for a stack of them! We favor the perforated baking sheets from Bon Cook (creator of the original baking Silpat) in all their sizes. They are incredibly versatile and storing them in this space frees up a large drawer or pull-out cubby for spices or utensils. bon COOK – Boutique
Kitchens generally have various other items in that size range as well. You can store those oddly shaped serving trays, extra cutting boards, and even charcuterie boards here. Make space for holiday platters made of glass, metal or silver.
Is your family a “Pizza” family? Store round pizza trays or baking stones in these divided cubbies, extra cooling racks or flat stoneware items.
The versatility to store all these often oddly shaped items make this a “Must Have” for your next kitchen renovation.
