I saw a Reel online the other day that really made me think: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEpWp-1zKyI/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
The speaker had a very simple and effective visual aid. On the screen were 1,080 small circles, each representing one month in the life of a person who lives to be 90 years old. Presented visually like that it’s not as many as one might think.
He went on to fill in dots, or to minus them from the total for things like sleeping, education, driving, cooking and eating, chores and errands career and time on a screen. Time in the bathroom dedicated to person hygiene also makes up a considerable chuck of those months.
We are encouraged to invest in a good bed since we spend so much time there. The quality of our sleep has a dramatic impact on our lives. We have all experienced “waking up on the wrong side of the bed” after a poor night’s rest and “HELLO WORLD” after a great sleep.
Investing in your bathroom can also help your mental and emotional well-being. You’re thinking, “Come on. It’s just tile.” True, its tile…and so much more.
Is there mold or mildew in your shower? Is there caulking around the shower door that no matter how much you clean you can’t get under to kill those spores. Is cracked caulking allowing water seepage? Is there dry rot or other water damage under the shower? Does your vent fan work? Is there condensation accumulating on walls or ceiling? Do you have a shower nozzle without adequate water pressure? Is your bathroom sink too small to manage your makeup and hair styling tools? Are there rust or hard water stains in your tub or shower? Are your floors freezing cold in the winter? Are there enough electrical outlets? Does your mirror make you look more bloated than you feel? If you’ve ever been to a hall of mirrors at a carnival you know that not all mirrors are created equal.
How do you feel when you are in the bathroom? Do you avoid taking baths because the tub isn’t long enough? Is the shower wide enough to accommodate a shower chair for aging parents?
Do you feel relaxed and serene in your bathroom? Or do you focus on the paint that needs to be touched up and the hair accumulating in the corners?
If your budget allows, why not upgrade the space. You wouldn’t invite business clients into a sub-par office or conference room. Yet, day after day we invite ourselves into a bathroom space in need of an upgrade. You are your most important “client.”
There are many variables in bathroom renovation. Do you need a brand-new shower? Tile? Insert? Or will a resurface suffice? You’ll need to consider counter height, lighting, commode height, heated or regular floors, jetted or regular tub and more. Your SheBuilds Designer will walk you through all the important decisions to make the space a true retreat; a space to do your ‘business’ that you can truly enjoy.
And if you’re going to spend 27 of those monthly dots in the bathroom taking care of personal hygiene, then…why not?
